Lisa's Fresh Salsa
Ingredients:
- 7-8 medium to large tomatoes, finely chopped
- 4-5 tablespoons green chilies (canned or fresh, finely chopped)
- 2 tablespoons jalapeño peppers, finely diced (adjust to taste for spice level)
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder (or garlic salt if preferred)
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
- Salt, to taste
Directions:
1. Prepare the Vegetables:
- Chop the tomatoes into small, bite-sized pieces.
- Finely chop the green chilies and jalapeños. Be careful when handling the jalapeños—wear gloves if necessary, as the oils can irritate your skin. For milder salsa, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeños before chopping.
- Chop the cilantro finely to add a fresh, herbal flavor.
2. Mix the Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, jalapeños, garlic powder (or garlic salt), onion powder, and cilantro.
- Add salt to taste. Start with a pinch and gradually add more until it tastes just right.
3. Chill and Serve:
- Stir everything together until well-mixed.
- Cover the bowl and place the salsa in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
4. Storage:
- This fresh salsa will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. However, it’s so delicious, it may not last that long! Enjoy it with chips, tacos, grilled meats, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.
Tips:
? Milder Salsa: For a milder version, reduce the amount of jalapeños or substitute with a mild pepper like a bell pepper.
? Additional Flavor Options: You can add a squeeze of lime juice for extra tanginess or a pinch of cumin for a smoky flavor.
? Serve with: This salsa pairs wonderfully with tortilla chips, tacos, grilled meats, or even scrambled eggs for a zesty breakfast!
Enjoy your fresh, vibrant salsa that packs a punch!
